The ingredient Tongkat Ali is a fertility stimulant and aphrodisiac, and there appears to be plenty of evidence to support this effect, with some evidence suggesting it may be an anti-estrogen and erectile factor. The aphrodisiac effects of Tongkat Ali are quite reliable and appear to span multiple animal models. Although it is difficult to perform a comparative analysis with other herbal aphrodisiacs to assess potency, the current evidence suggests that Tongkat Ali is a good aphrodisiac. In addition to its aphrodisiac properties, Tongkat Ali can increase sperm production and may directly act as an erection factor. At least one molecule in Tongkat Ali has been linked to delayed ejaculation as well as erectile properties (although the molecule's ability to act by consuming Tongkat Ali extract is unknown). Regarding animal studies, using 500mg/kg Tongkat Ali daily for 6-12 days in sexually chronic male rats, a reduction in ejaculation latency was noted, but no improvements in crotch crawling, penetration, or post-ejaculation latency were noted after the first dose. There was a significant difference, but after treatment was extended to 6 days, ejaculation latency (24.1% reduction) and latency (45.2%) became more significant, with no further improvement after 12 days. Crotch crawling frequency also increased from 0% at baseline (unaffected by single-dose treatment) to 25% at 6 days and 37.5% at 12 days. These effects are thought to be mediated through increased testosterone levels.
